Greg Johns

Greg Johns is a singer/songwriter who hails from Oklahoma. He moved to New Mexico some 50+ years ago and has had great success as a performer, bandleader and recording artist. He has toured the southwest as a solo artists and he has headed to Winfield, Kansas every fall for the Walnut Creek Music Festival for the past 20 years to perform. In 2021 he took home the prize at Walnut Creek for the Best New Song for his composition Winfield Songs and Dreams. His music is available on all streaming platforms and for least to film, television and all media.

Greg Johns & the Semi-Large Band have earned finalist status in this year’s New Mexico Music Awards in the country song category. Greg Johns & the Semi-Large Band earned finalist status in the 2025 New Mexico Music Awards in the country song category for their new release “Lost My Ass, Again”. This is the second go ’round in 3 years for the band who are currently working on their second album, a follow-up to Greg Johns 2022 effort “Now….and Then”, which produced the award winning single Rodeo Hippie. The new album is expected out this summer.

Winfield Songs and Dreams reaches 100k
Greg Johns song Winfield Songs and Dreams reached 100,000 streams in just the past 3 months, a pheromonal achievement for any song. The song, written by Greg and Linda Johns and Bill Graham is from Greg’s 2022 album Now and Then. The song memorializes the annual Walnut Creek Music Festival that takes place Winfield Kansas every September. The event celebrated its 84th year in 2024. Every year the festival crowns a flatpicking world champion.
While Greg has been attending the festival for a quarter century, this year he brought his Semi-Large Band to the festival to perform. The song will likely get a further boost from their performance there. Greg and the band are working on another album due for release in late 2024 or early 2025. Here’s looking forward to getting to a million hits.

Greg Johns wins in the Best Song category at the 2023 New Mexico Music Awards
Greg Johns’ signature song, Rodeo Hippie, took home the award for Best Western Song at the 36th Annual New Mexico Music Awards. The song comes from his 2022 album, Now and Then. The album also produced two other nominations. One for Best Country Music Album and one for Best Original Song for Winfield Songs and Dreams. The song and album were produced by Greg Johns and Jose Antonio Ponce and recorded at Wall of Sound Studios in Albuquerque and engineered by John Wall.
The New Mexico Music Awards has recognized excellence in music produced in New Mexico annually since 1986 and holds its awards banquet and show held in Albuquerque. This is Greg’s first album in 30 years.

Assisted by co-producer Jose Antonio Ponce and recorded by John Wall at his Wall of Sound Studios in Albuquerque, the album contains 8 original songs written primarily by Greg Johns and recorded with his Semi-Large Band that includes Kenny Rainey on lead guitar, Scotty Beckett on bass, fiddler Amy Blackburn and John Paul Davis on Dobro.
